Live Event Wellbeing Guide: Splendour in the Grass 2022 Edition
After 2 bloody long years we are ready for the music event of the year, Splendour in The Grass and well.. shes a little bit soggy. With people sleeping in cars, extended line ups, flooded tents and cancelled line ups its safe to say that we might not be feeling our best.
Here is Hey Mate’s Live Event Well-being Guide: Splendour 2022 edition.
Take it easy on yourself
After such a long build up we can have high hopes of a killer festival and that we will be the ultimate festival version of ourselves. BUT festivals are a lot at times and Splendour so far has been a challenging one so if you’re not feeling like dropping it like its hots that’s okay, perhaps save the big night for tomorrow, gran a good feed with a friend or an arts festival activity might be more your style.
Be a mate and have a mate
When we find ourselves up shit creek without a paddle, we often look to others to assist. Find a mate that you know you can depend on for the weekend and remember to be a mate for them as well. It might be waiting in the line, drying out the tent or doing the morning coffee run but spreading the load can make the challenges a little less stressful.
Be a friendly face in a crowd
If you see someone you don’t know who looks like they are struggling or needs some help ask if they are ok. If you see someone alone and unconscious alert a member of event staff or security.
Practice Some Habits That Make you Feel Good
Easy said then done but try to bring those good habits from home that make you feel good with you. It might be going for a morning walk, journaling or aiming to get a good sleep. These habits will help support resilience and maintain positive mental health.
Focus on what you can control
Things can get wild and overwhelming when we experience events we can’t control such a weather events and line up cancellations. Trying to focus on the things that we can control can help relieve the overwhelm and stress. This might be making a safe space for you to sleep in the event of a weather event or putting together a plan A and plan B for when these unforeseen events pop up eg. line up cancelled? great opportunity for an adventure to see what local acts are playing that night.
Festival Welfare Is Your Friend
Check on your event website to see if they have a welfare team and where they are located this includes First Aid and Security.
If your event doesnt have a welfare team, get in contact with them and advocate for one. LEWP operates nation wide supporting welfare on the ground at festivals and back stage.
